Writing Off the Copayment

Three dentists who have taught ethics comment on a case where 40% of collections expected as compensation were being reduced because of the practice of writing off copays; based on an article in the Journal of the American College of Dentists. (1 credit hour)

  • Explain the financial impact of waiver of copayments on the various parties involved (patient, dentist, practice owner, insurance companies, other patients, the profession, the public)
  • Articulate the ADA’s position on waiver of copayments
  • Contrast the legal and ethical considerations in issues such as a waiver of copayments
